The moment I discovered my mum’s Pentax-camera and dark room, was extremely joyful. I studied photography at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague. My work portrays people intimately in their natural environments. I prefer to work with natural light and enjoy experimenting with visual rhyme. For some time now, photo collages have become a valuable addition to my work, allowing me to explore complex themes such as loss, comfort, fear and hope. These collages offer a more abstract narrative to complement my photography.
For being a source of inspiration, I want to thank:
My family and friends, people with great humor, the giant ant-eater, Alec Soth, Bertien van Manen, Sally Mann, Marina Abramović, Rebecca Norris Webb, Hans Holbein the Younger, Johan Mekkink, Roald Dahl, Louis Theroux, Bert Haanstra, cats & birds, trees & paper, 999 Games, Richard Linklater, Bach, Western-Australia & Vlieland, the Temminck’s stint and many other creatures and places.
I’m working happily together with my problem solving producer and agent Monique Grondijs (www.mrs-robinson.nl ), with whom I gather the best suitable talents for small till largescale productions for commercial shoots.
